This is one of three unlisted memorials inside Rhonehouse Village Hall at OS Map Ref NX 742 597. A shame about the odd paint splatter but it is in otherwise good condition. It is odd that the names are individually numbered, I cannot think why.

3. L CPL ALEXANDER FRATER RSF
4. L CPL THOMAS U NICHOLSON KOSB

They are ordered alphabetically by rank, but I don't know why they need to be numbered either.

I have read various sources that throughout the UK a significant proportion of memorials list names purely on an alphabetical basis. However, in our region a lot of memorials order the men by rank. I don't know if this is because D&G is a more agricultural area and the class system still had a greater influence in rural areas at this time.

Here is a picture of the hall. I went back to find and photograph the clock mentioned in the memorial. The only clock on display is this more modern example. The present key holder was not aware of the previous clock so I guess that is another item lost to history.
