Not listed on UKNIWM
Location - Royal British Legion Building, Castle Douglas (near library) OS Map Ref NX 767 625
(edit by spoons - above info added and title amended to reflect purpose of the memorial)
The Royal British Legion building is accessed via the Castle Hill car park at the "Top" or east end of the town.
The complex of buildings including the red brick building in the background was owned by the Territorial Army. The gable end is that of the Drill Hall which, since the 1970's, houses the town's swimming pool. (no memorials) The buildings in the foreground were let to the Old Comrades Club until the early 1920's when they were taken over by the then British Legion.
The is one of the last (the last?) Branch in Dumfries and Galloway to have its own premises.
Many thanks to the Branch Chairman, Martin Fortnum, for the information and for access.

The Roll of Honour (for Kelton Parish) is in 5 glass-fronted panels.
It is hand written on paper and in some panels a little faded.
The larger panels have three columns of entries, the smaller panel only one. The order of entries is not apparent. Each entry has name, home location, Regiment, and whether wounded, died of wounds or killed in action and where wounded or killed.

The Rolls proved quite difficult to photograph. I do have close-ups of the panels so if anyone wants copies then send me a PM.
I have posted this one both to give a flavour of the rest and because it has a curiosity. The entry for Thomas Nicholson has been lined through but no one seems to know why.
A few lines further down is an entry for Alexander Nicholson also from the village of Rhonehouse and also KIA.
They were brothers.

I have amended the title to reflect the purpose of the memorial and amended the first post to add UKNIWM Ref and OS Map Ref in the usual place.
It would be interesting to know where this Roll of Honour was originally located and when it moved to the present location.

Regarding the deletion of Thomas Nicholson's name - having gone thro' all the panels - his name was entered twice. _________________ Ken |

I managed to visit yesterday. Apart from Castle Douglas, the only other British Legion Branch within Dumfries and Galloway to have its own premises is Lockerbie.
I took my 'big' camera with me - the slightly odd angles are to avoid reflections. My own photos of the 9 sheets.

I have done some editing and hopefully all 9 of the name panels are now legible.
