Thanks Adam,

The items were in glass cases in the corridor at Rhynie School. Tap O' Noth Community Council ( of which I am a member ) have been trying to locate where Aberdeenshire Council have put them in an endeavour to get them returned to Rhynie. This may solve the mystery, clearly someone has documented their existance in this document dated Aug 2007.

It should hopefully be quite straightforward to find someone who knows where they are. Hopefully they will be back in Rhynie soon.

Going back to Anderson himself neither Seaforth battalions served in Bechuanaland and there was no British campaign there in 1884. It looks like Anderson may have been serving as a British NCO with a South African unit on a punitive expedition.

By 1898 he is listed as Lieutenant and Quartermaster of the Seaforth Highlanders in the Battle of Khartoum despatch. See here:

I think a trip to the Central library to check on the Army List for 1898 might throw up some more information.

Regards

Adam
