These two men (possibly brothers?) are named on the WW2 panels of the Gretna War Memorial as

ANDREW GRAHAM. OFFICER. R.N.

and

WILLIAM GRAHAM. DVR. R.A.S.C.

Both man are also named on the Gretna Old Parish Church WW2 Roll of Honour as being of Victory Avenue, but I cannot trace any record of either of them.

Is it just me?????

Don't see any apparent matches for Andrew in the British Nationals Overseas Deaths, CWGC, Deaths at Sea, SNWM.

There is a death for an Andrew Graham aged 41 in 1942 registered in Durham N.W., England......

Cheers Mark Very Happy

I'm trying very hard not to make 2+2 = 5 but this does look like you have cracked it Wink

The 1911 census does seem to confirm.

I'll let you know when I calm down a bit.

The story so far:
In 1901 in Springfield, Gretna were William Graham 50, his second wife Janet (or Jessie) Rogerson 33, (married 1899) William 3 and Mary Ellen 2.
By 1911 William had died (in1910) and at Hill Old Bar, Gretna Loaning were Janet 42, William 13, Mary Ellen 12, Andrew 10, Caroline Hayton 7, Nora 6, Henry James Law Graham 5

William was born in 1897 and Andrew in 1901 both in Gretna.

William, aged 48, died on 20 November 1945 of tuberculosis at 45 Victory Avenue. He was a grocer, aged 48, a son of the late William and Jessie (Rogerson) Graham (who had died in 1942)
Andrew, aged 41, died in September 1942 and was buried in the family plot on 11 September 1942. The cemetery records show 45 Victory Avenue for both Andrew and his mother.
William is in a different plot. I'd guess because the family plot was "full".

I'll have to get Andrew's death certificate to confirm that he is the same man and perhaps to explain the "Officer RN" title on the War Memorial.

Another big "thank you" to Mark for finding them.

Thanks again Mark.
The link to the Longtown site is a "god-send".
It's has been really frustrating researching in this area where the next door parish is not only in a different county, it's in a different country!

Mark - I've just found another man from the above link Very Happy

I've been looking for a James Davidson, Scots Guards but none of the (few) candidates seemed to have any connection to Gretna.
However this one is mentioned on the family gravestone.

James Davidson – age 43 – Private (10550) 1st Battalion, Scots Guards.
James was a locomotive fireman in Govan, Glasgow when he joined the Scots Guards as Private (9243) in 1891. He was discharged in January 1900 and seems to have settled in Liverpool as a dock labourer as he re-enlisted from there and joined his battalion in France in November 1914.
Born 1871 at Sarkfoot, Gretna. Son of the late James Davidson of Stoneybridge Cottage, Gretna and of the late Mary Ann (Rodgerson) Davidson of Holle, Kirkpatrick Fleming, Dumfriesshire.
Brother of John Davidson, of 356, Springburn Road, Glasgow.
Missing in Action on 25 January 1915 and named on the Le Touret Memorial, France.

He obviously left the area many years before, which probably explains why is out of sequence on the War Memorial and seems to be a "late" addition.

Just got the death certificate for Andrew Graham and his death was registered by his brother W. Graham of 45 Victory Avenue, Gretna - so it is the correct man Very Happy

He died of Pulmonary tuberculosis on 6 September 1942 in the Emergency Hospital at Shotley Bridge, Consett, County Durham. He lived at 109 Wharton Street, South Shields and was a seaman in the Merchant Navy - so not "Officer RN" Confused
