Hi folks
A wee difficult one i have discovered.

I have a Joseph Scanlon listed on the Barrhead civic war memorial Renfrewshire. But I cant find any details of death for him.I do have two inserts into the barrhead news for ww1. AROUND 1916
The war
missing now reported killed
Mr Malcolm Scanlon Main street Barrhead has received official intimation that his brother Corporal Joseph Scanlon of the 2nd Duke of Wellington Regiment, Who was reported missing on the 12th Oct 1916, is now presumed to have been killed on that date. Corporal Scanlon had seen 22 years of soldiering. He had formerly been in the Gordon Highlanders and went through the Boer war and took part in the fight on the Dargai Heights. He was a native of Barrhead.

Mr Malcolm Scanlon, 58 Main street, has had intimation that his Brother, Corporal Joseph Scanlan, West Riding regiment, has been posted " missing presumed killed" on 12th Oct. Corporal Scanlon had spent about 20 years in the army and was through the Boer war, Taking part in the affair on the heights of Dargai, For these services he held two medals and three bars. At the outbreak of the present war he was in England and immediately re-inlisted. He had been through a great deal of the fighting up till the date of his death.

A son of Mr Scanlon's- Private William Scanlan Australia imperial forces- Is at Present in a hospital in England with his third wound. He enlisted in Australia, and before being transferred to France was twice wounded in the fighting in the Dardanelles.

Any one shed any light on this one?

I believe he served as Joseph Ferguson 3/9951, West Riding Regt. KIA 12/10/1916. Soldiers effects legatee is Malcolm Scanlon.
