Hello to the Forum.
I was wondering if any of the members lived nearby this memorial, and if so could they do me a great favour of checking a name for me, His name is 20576. RSM. John Watson 10th Canadian Infantry Alberta Regiment, DOW 27th June 1915. He was not on the Monument. I was in contact with some one from the North Ayrshire Graves and Mouments I sent all his paperwork, Birth Certs Attestatin papers, Marriage certs and all the facts I had on John. it was accepted that he should and would be added to the memorial.
Unfortunatly I had a PC crash and I lost the email and phone number of my contact in Dalry, I would be very greatfull if someone could check to see if his name had been added.
Thanks in advance.

Yours Aye Raibeart Dubh

Has been added to the Scottish National War Memorial and is to be added to the Dalry Memorial thanks to the work of a GWF Canadian pal.

Hello Malcolm.
One and the same, I have lost my contact number for Dalry Council, and as I change my Email address after my PC crashed. they have no way of contacting me !!! I was asking if any members of this forum had noticed if John Watsons name had been added to the Monument. Thanks for the reply.

Yours Aye Raib

Next time Celtic F.C. are at home I am going to photograph Dalry's memorial for the forum as Dalry is only 3 miles from my parents house.

Hi Raibeart,
I think it was yourself who posted on the other forum about this and I promised I would get you a photograph. I had a look at the Dalry memorial a while ago and the name still wasn't added. I'll have another look first chance I get.

Jim / Kevin / Malcolm.
Thanks for the replies, I am so Pi***d off at myself for the loss of the details of the person I was dealing with in Ayrshire regarding John Watson. I had a PC crash and I lost a whole load of addresses etc etc ( Always have a back up disc ) I hear myself saying.
The last information I had was, they had accepted the information I had given them, and his name would be added to the memorial, it had been put out to tender, and it would be done ASAP once again thank's for all the help.

Yours Aye Rob

Kevin. Thanks a bundle!! that would be great. Put this bye your uncle the chap I talked to was from The North Ayrshire Council, I think the Graves and Memorial Dept I think his name was "Gilley Canning" I know for certain that I have his first name right, but I could be a wee bit off with his second name thanks for the help on this.

I know how much you must LOVE to read the guidelines Shocked (but there is some good stuff in there) but for each memorial we try and post a minimum of description of location with OS Map Reference, name of memorial, UKNIWM reference number, overall photo, close up of all inscriptions and markings then anything else that would be of interest. Check out 'Upper Sorbie' in Dumfries and Galloway that I posted yesterday as an example. Anything that you can post that adds to what we already have will help. Incidentally, I have Ayreshire memorials under my wing until someone else comes along and volunteers so if you have any comments on the Ayreshire Memorials List at http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=857 please let me know.

Sorry for delay I finally got round to visiting Dalry a couple of days ago and took some pics.

The Dalry war memorial features a large and simple freestone cross set on a long pedestal with the commemorations and names of the dead listed on bronze panels set on the face of the pedestal. The cross is fronted by a lifesize bronze sculpture of 'Victory' by the Glasgow sculptor Kellock Brown (see entry in the 'Sculptors' section).
The memorial stands in the public park at Braehead. As you enter the park gates beside 67 North Street (adjacent to the junction with Templand Road) the monument stands on the grass hillside along on the left hand side.

WWII PANELS:

Unfortunately, like many war memorials in quiet locations such as parks, this one has suffered from some vandalism and grafitti.
