This memorial is located on the main building of Dalzell Steelworks, and is to the members of staff of David Colville & Sons Ltd, who owned the steelworks.

Apologies for the quality of these photographs. I plan to go back and get better ones.

There is a extensive report of the unveiling of this memorial on Friday 7(?) July 1922 in the Motherwell Times of Friday 14 July 1922 p.2.
The names of the 151 employees are printed and include:

Bertram McRoberts – age 22 – Corporal (S/5377) 7th Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders.
Bertram was employed in the Dalzell Steel and Iron Works and was living in Windmill Street, Motherwell, Lanarkshire when he enlisted in September 1914. He joined the 1st Battalion in Belgium in January 1915. He served at Ypres, the Somme, Arras, Passchendaele, and the Somme again in 1918. He was wounded twice in 1915, at Ypres and Messines, and killed at Sailly-le-sec.
Born 1895 in Gatehouse-of-Fleet, Kirkcudbrightshire. Son of Samuel and Agnes (Bertram) McRoberts of Boatgreen, Gatehouse.
Missing in Action on 23 March 1918 and named on the Pozieres Memorial, Somme, France.
Also named on the War Memorial in Gatehouse, on the Anwoth Parish Church memorial, now in Gatehouse-of-Fleet Parish Church and on the War Memorial in Motherwell.

Charles Hunt – age 21 – Rifleman (1987 & 240280) 5th/6th Battalion, Cameronians (Scottish Rifles)
Charles was employed at Motherwell Steel Works and was a member of the local Territorials when he was mobilised in August 1914. He went to France with the 1/6th Battalion in March 1915 and was wounded at Neuve Chapelle. It was 6 months before he could return to the front. He was wounded again in mid August 1917 and died in 13th General Hospital in Boulogne.
Born 1896 in Maxwelltown, Troqueer, Kirkcudbrightshire. Son of Patrick and Mary Hunt of 75 High Street, Dumfries.
Died of Wounds on 29 August 1917 and buried in Boulogne Eastern Cemetery, France.
Also named on the Dumfries War Memorial.

JOHN JARDINE CURRIE, SCOTTISH HORSE.
John Jardine Currie – age 23 – Private (56017) 256th Company, Machine Gun Corps.
John was employed at the Dalzell Steel Works in Motherwell, Lanarkshire when he enlisted as Trooper (5137) in the Scottish Horse Yeomanry in December 1914. He landed with the 1/1st Battalion at Gallipoli in September 1915. He then served in Egypt where in 1917 he transferred to the newly formed 26th Machine Gun Squadron (256th MGC) of the 2nd Battalion, Imperial Camel Corps. John was killed near Jaffa in Palestine at the Battle of Bald Hill.
Born 1894 in Hoddom, Dumfriesshire. Son of John Jardine Currie and of Isabella Palmer (Laidlaw) Currie of Townfoot, Ecclefechan, Hoddom..
Killed in Action on 1 December 1917 and buried in Ramleh War Cemetery, Israel.
Also named on the Motherwell War Memorial, on the Hoddom Parish War Memorial in Ecclefechan and on the Imperial Camel Corps memorial in London.

His brother, James Laidlaw Currie, was awarded a Distinguished Conduct Medal as Lance Sergeant (23439) 2nd Battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers. (London Gazette 26/11/1917)
23439 L./Sjt. J. L. Currie, K.O.S.B. (Ecclefechan). For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. “He rushed a "pill-box" singlehanded and rescued an N.C.O. who had been taken prisoner from four of the enemy, whom he killed. After all the officers and N.C.O.'s in the company had become casualties, he gathered a number of men together and led them forward to the objective against the enemy who were counterattacking. The following day he repelled two counter-attacks. He was ultimately wounded, but led his company through the barrages in good order

JOSEPH TURNBULL, Cameronians.

Named on the Langholm War Memorial in Dumfriesshire as:

S.M. JOS. TURNBULL, SCOTTISH RIFLES.
Joseph Turnbull – age 33 – Company Serjeant Major (535) 1/6th Battalion, Cameronians (Scottish Rifles)
Joseph enlisted as Private 6960 in the King's Own Scottish Borderers in January 1900. He served in South Africa from February to November 1900 and was discharged under the terms of the demobilistion of the South African Field Force. In 1901 he was a railway porter at Stevenston in Ayrshire and by 1907 he was a steelworker in Motherwell, Lanarkshire. He enlisted there and landed with his battalion at Le Havre in March 1915 but was killed three months later at Festubert.
Born 1882 in Langholm, Dumfriesshire. Son of the late William Armstrong Turnbull and Janet (Hounam) Turnbull of 1 Mary Street, Langholm. Husband of the late Grace Gray (Nisbet) Turnbull of Parkhead Street, Motherwell who he married in 1904 in Uddingston, Lanarkshire. Grace died in 1909 in Motherwell.
Father of Jessie Baxter Thomson Turnbull born at Macdonald Street Motherwell in 1907.
Missing in Action on 15 June 1915 and named on the Le Touret Memorial, France.
Also named on the Langholm Parish Church memorial and on the Motherwell War Memorial.
