Thomas Crichton and James Cowper. Both were Covenanters who were taken prisoner after the Battle of Bothwell Bridge. They were embarked on the ship Crown of London in Leith to be transported to English plantations in America as slaves.
The ship was driven on to rocks off Scarvataing, Deerness, Orkney on 10th December 1679. All but 50 prisoners drowned, including Crichton and Cowper.
