Hi,
Would anyone be so nice to be able to take a picture of my Great Great Uncles' grave in Ballieston (St Andrews) Churchyard. He is John Gilmour, and was a Sgt in the Gordon Highlanders. He is in North Backbreadth 394.

I have always aimed to try and get to the cemetery in Ballieston (as some others from my family are buried there), but at present ill health prevents this, as does distance as I am based near Manchester.

Thanks for reading this.

Hi hillgorilla,

Here you go:

Lair 394 Baillieston Old Churchyard, the inscription:

In memory of JANE SUMMERS GILFILLAN beloved wife of Samuel W. Gilmour
Who died at Strathaven 19th October 1889 aged 43 years
HUGH GILFILLAN GIMOUR his son who died at Strathaven 30th April 1892 aged 10 years
ROBINSON GILMOUR his son who died at Strathaven 13th April 1885 aged 6 months
Also his son Sergt. JOHN GILMOUR 3rd Battalion Gordon Highlanders
Who died at the 1st General Hospital, Aberdeen 17th February 1919 aged 30 years
The above SAMUEL W. GILMOUR who died 2nd March 1928 aged 72 years

The Small stone lyng at the foot of this one I don't think has anything to do with the same family - the inscription is:

To the memory of JOHN PATERSON from his fellow workers
Wm. Beardmore & Co. Ltd., Parkhead
14th November 1934

Let me know who else you're looking for, I've got Lair Records, MI's and photos of all the existing legible stones in the Churchyard. If you send me a PM with your personal e-mail, I'll send you high res. copies of the above photos. I can also send you a copy of a plan I made of the Churchyard which pinpoints the location of each lair.

The Church, as you probably know has been closed for years and is in a terrible state - it's supposedly been earmarked for re-development into flats, but that story has been going about for years and nothing has ever happened.

Anne.
