The white square is a notice from North Lanarkshire Council that the gravestone is unsafe and should not be touched or moved. It is not a particularly high stone so it is not particularly dangerous.
It is also worth noting that the stone giveshis name as KEIR, and that someone has painted an S at the end to make KEIRS.

His surname will be pronounced Lukoshevichius.
Leonas is probably related to my family. He lived at the same address as my grandfather, Antanas Lukoševičius, who fought for the British Army in WWI. They lived at 40 New Orbiston and 80 Main Street Bellshill.
The inscription on the grave reads as follows:
HERE IS RESTING BELOVED HUSBAND OF ONA KUMEČIŪTĖ
LEONAS LUKOŠEVIČIUS
DIED ON 28TH OF FEBRUARY, 1919, 46 YEAR OLD
TOGETHER ARE RESTING TWO DAUGHTERS WHO DIED WHEN LITTLE GIRLS.
Their 2 daughters and 1 son died before WWI. I believe they were survived by Jurgis Lukoševičius (George Lucas ?) who maybe lived in Dundee/Glenrothes and Leonas Lukosevicius (Leon Lucas ?) who maybe emigrated to Canada between WWI and WWII. |

As you can see there are two stones in front of the CWGC stone. the small one does not relate to William Marshall. The second one has the same information as the CWGC stone with the exception of who it was erected by. The photos are quite hard to make out so I will provide a transcription.
"In Loving Memory of Dvr Wm Marshall, T/266566, who was killed in action 27th Feb 1943, aged 21(?) years. Erected by Neighbours and fellow workers of L.M.S. Bellshill. Also Officers, NCOs & Men, 118th Div Troop Coy, RASC." |
