James Aitchison died at the age of 40 at Cowdrait, Burnmouth, Ayton parish on 25th June 1919 of pulmonary tuberculosis. He appears in 4 memorials in the parish - and I've also identified the family headstone and a death notice.

Headstone in Ayton Churchyard
Quote:

In loving memory of Helen Spouse beloved wife of John Aitchison fisherman Burnmouth who died 16.3.1887 aged 44 years. Also William their youngest son who died 30.6.1902 aged 21 years. Also their son James Aitchison RNR died at Burnmouth 25.6.1919 aged 40 years. Also the above John Aitchison died at Burnmouth 7.4.____ aged 81 years.

However, I'm not finding anything in CWGC or SNWM. Any help appreciated with resolving this query.

Thanks, Kenny

Kenny - there's a whole gang of them here
http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/results/r?_fn=james&_ln=aitchison&_pl=&_q=&_cr1=BT+164++&_cr2=BT+377++&_col=200&_hb=tna&image1.x=52&image1.y=16

but it looks like the third one is your man (born 12 July 1879)

His service record (@ £3.30) should give you his discharge date and the reason, however it would have to specify that it was due to TB to make a case for non-comm status.

Good luck with it Smile

This one may be possible. I've obtained his service record. It's hard to make out the handwriting but it seems to mention TB and that it is attributable to his war service.

I can forward the service record on via email to any interested party who might wish to submit this as a case.

It doesn't look like this was progressed as there is no entry on the CWGC database

Thanks
