The following man appears on the City of Glasgow RoH

BROUGH, ALEXANDER PTE CAMERON HIGHLANDERS 21 Scotia Street.

He is listed on SNWM:-

Surname BROUGH
Forename Alexander
Rank Pte
Service number 6909
Decoration
Place of birth Glasgow
Date of death 12 November 1917
Theatre of death Home
Cause of death Died of wounds.
SNWM roll THE QUEEN'S OWN CAMERON HIGHLANDERS
Unit name Unknown Unit attached to THE QUEEN'S OWN CAMERON HIGHLANDERS
Other detail 1st Bn.

His DC states that he died in the Western Infirmary, Glasgow - cause of death Tuberculosis of Lungs. He was an Army Pensioner.

I cannot find any record of him on CWGC.

Could someone please check if his discharge papers are available?

David, do you have a source for that, please?
I don't see him on "Soldiers Who Died...." nor on Silver War Badge list.
If I'm right, I wonder where SNWM got him from?

If there was only a few months between this man's discharge and death is it being ruled out for CWGC commemoration?

Thanks

Reply from Terry.

"Not unless his discharge from the army was due to TB specifically stated to have been caused by, attributable to or aggravated by service.

You will need his pension record to prove this as that is where this is given. It is not a qualification to die post-discharge of an illness contracted in service. It has to have been caused/aggravated by.

The Kings Regulation is no help as it could relate to any sickness and not necessarily TB."

It would appear there is no Pension Record for this man.

Thanks John, so it looks like this is a brick wall now. The National Archives of Scotland have some un-indexed Scottish pension records. It may be that in the future evidence may be found.

Thanks for checking with Terry.

Kind regards

As previously advised, his record states he was discharged as no longer physically fit for service, but provided no further details than that.

I've I had another look at this one and found he had in fact a pension record.
Along with the info on his UK, WWI Pension Ledgers and Index Cards, 1914-1923 and DC, I re-submitted it all to Terry and received the following today,

Quote:
John
He has been submitted. Start the grave hunt.
