I noticed this small piece in the Blairgowrie Advertiser:
Last week we reported the death in action of Lieut. W.C.O. Barrie, Black Watch, younger son of Mrs Barrie, Strathview, Kirriemuir, and now there has come notification that his elder brother, Corporal Charles D.O. Barrie, London Scottish, who was reported missing on 1st July, had also been killed in action.
Lieut. Barrie was a teacher, and his brother a journalist, and both were nephews of Sir James Barrie, the novelist.
(This would of course be Sir James Matthew Barrie, of Peter Pan fame.)

Thanks once again to John Burnett for adding my pic to this set of pics. This pic was in a Great War display at the Musuem in Kirriemuir a year or two ago . Possibly on the lead up to the anniversary of the end of the Great War . I recently returned to the museum and that display has gone along with the Kirriemuir Post office war memorial

An article in the Scotsman today (19.4.11) says that a memorial to the Black Watch is planned for 2014 at Black Watch Corner, in Flanders. It is intended that it be modelled on the Kirriemuir memorial. |
