Again, I've just had a quick look at the Roll of Honour after posting. It has added poignancy for me as it bears the name Anthony Mathers who died a couple of years back. He was the father of a very good friend of mine from schooldays. |

Courier & Advertiser Wednesday 25 January 2012 : Craigie column:
Black & White photo of the Memorial "In Memory of the 1087 British Killed .."
Reader D. R. Hamill of Methven has sent this picture of the little known about KOREAN WAR MEMORIAL "stuck up a close " as he puts it , off the OLD HIGH STREET in PERTH . "Surely it could have had a more prominent position ." he says . The Majority of Perth People do no appear to know anything about it and have no idea where it is ."
This may be of general interest to everyone..

Here is a post that appeared on the Black Watch Forums:
Went to find the Korean memorial in Perth [home of the Black Watch] have never visited it before, coudna find it, no signpost in the High St, had to ask about, not a lot of people know its there, its hidden out of sight isnt it.
The gate has a big padlock on it, went round to the blind institute at the back, they allowed me to go out their emergency door to gain access, the place is a disgrace, rubbish everywhere, builders rubble lying about in bags, it needs restoration in a big way
A sad display for our Korean dead,I have to say. |

Not a great state.
With the memorial being in a back garden like that you'd think it would be checked upon occasionally by someone?
Nothing broken though, so easily sorted I'd hope.

I visited the memorial earlier this year.
The garden was originally owned by the Red Cross who handed it over to the Perth Branch of the British Korea Veterans Association. The association has recently disbanded. The garden is now owned by the Perth & Kinross Society for the Blind. I spoke to Sandy Pearson who works there - he is in the local Rotary Club who help him with the upkeep of the garden which is now looking much tidier.
Here is the link to the Rotary Perth website: http://www.rotary-ribi.org/clubs/page.php?PgID=338860&ClubID=49

The Courier and advertiser for 25th May 2022 - records
Veterans assoc has plans to move memorial :
Plans are about to move a war memorial tucked away behind a locked gate to a more accessable City Centre location. The Assoc of Perth Veterans is looking to move the Korean war memorial from within a garden off Old High street in Perth to the North Inch .
The report goes on to say that Chris Ahern said " that Perth and Kinross council is still working out how to fix the plaques to the wall which is part of the flood defence . Its not fogotten there is a future for it ."
