UKNIWM Ref No 54135

I have just received an acknowledgement from the UKNIWM to an email I sent them over this memorial. They had it incorrectly sited on the A833 when it is actualy attop a small wooded hill just to the south of the junction of the A831 to Kilmorack and the A862 to Beauly. They have checked out my info and corrected their database. If anyone has ever looked for this memorial and couldnt find it now you know why. It is 38 years since I passed that way when visiting my Scottish relatives and I do not have a photograph of the Memorial which was unveild by my Great Grandfather Duncan MacRae of Crask of Agis in recognition that the family sacrifice of four of his six sons was the greatest in the area.
If anyone on the forum is passing that way I would dearly love a complete set of photos of the memorial. No one in the family can remember the exact year of dedication of the memorial so if any forum member knows I would be greatful for the information.

Cheers Ian

Ian

Thank you for the information. I passed through Beauly last summer and photopgraphed the Lovat Scouts and Allied Forces memorials but I didn't see the community one.

Unfortunately the A9 no longer passes through Beauly so you've really got to make a point to go there. I'll probably be up North at Easter so I'll try and get to Beauly at some point.

Regards

Adam

Ian according to the note I made on my last visit to the memorial the monument is located on the crest of a hill overlooking the junction of the A862 and A831. The monument is constructed of a granite with a pinkish hue and is a rustic celtic cross with wheel-head on tapering pedestal with the commemorations and names of the dead listed on dressed granite tablets set into the face of the pedestal. The pedestal in turn rests on a cairn like base constructed of local stone.

Glasgow Herald (8th July 1915) also gives date of death as 11th of June, but CWGC & SNWM have 11th of May.
