You may or may not have noticed a slight change of name at the top of the forum. We are now the Commemorations Project, a project of the Scottish Military Research Group.
As we approach the tenth anniversary of the War Memorials Project, we had a look at what we needed to do to take this project, and the War Graves Project, into the next ten years. We have decided that rather than have a separate forum for graves and burials, we would instead incorporate the posts on the Scottish War Graves Project into this forum.
Merging the two forums into one is a mammoth undertaking with over twenty thousand entries to move over, but the committee felt the time was right to move all our photographs from both Scottish Military Research Group projects into one place. At the same time we have decided to rename the enlarged forum as the SMRG Commemorations Project - to reflect the larger scope of the project.
A lot of the information in the General, Queries & Requests, News & Guidelines sections of the Scottish War Graves Project is already on the Scottish War Memorials Project, so we have taken the decision to leave those sections as they are and focus on transferring the information in the Regional entries section over to the SMRG Commemorations Project. Any existing queries will remain on the SWGP and will remain open to replies, but any NEW queries will be posted on the "new" forum".
Once a new section, such as Renfrewshire, has been completely moved and opened to the public on the SMRG Commemorations Project forum, the old Renfrewshire section on the Scottish War Graves Project will be locked to stop new entries being added. A link will redirect any visitors to the new location for the data.
Because this work is being done by volunteers in their spare time and is expected to take several months to complete, the Scottish War Graves Project will still be active for updates in the mean time, with each regional section only being locked once all the data for that area has been moved over to the SMRG Commemorations Project.
Once all the graves, and the information in the forums relevant to them, have been moved across the Regional section of the Scottish War Graves Project will be hidden from public view and all visitors redirected to the SMRG Commemorations Project.
Additionally, as we transfer the grave information over we are compiling an index of the burials we have recorded, which we will hope to share with you in the near future. This index will make it easier to locate a specific name. With that in mind, each new thread for a cemetery will have a list of names in the first post, with each name linking you to the specific post for the burial in that cemetery.
We hope you will bear with us in this period of reorganisation, and that you will be happy to see all our valuable data congregated in one area. |

Sounds like a great deal of work to be done. All the best with that.

I find using the Search hard is there a way of using more filters? _________________ Researching WWI info from Aberdeenshire, Banffshire, Kincardineshire & Morayshire. |
