The WW1 Memorial was designed by James Balfour Paul and unveiled on 16th March 1921 by The Earl of Mar&Kellie KT,Deputy Governor.
578 staff served and 99 died.

The WW2 Memorial was designed by Sir Frank Mears, carved by CD`O Pilkington Jackson and unveiled on Saturday 5th April 1952 by Sir Thomas Riddell-Webster,GCB,DSO,DL.
1059 permanent and temporary staff served and 53 died.

Not only are the ratios of serving to dead interesting but also the fact that it took the bank only 3 years to commemorate WW1 but 7 to commemorate WW2.

Both Memorials originally in the Banking Hall, HQ ,14 George Street.

Thanks to Judy Irons and the security staff at the Royal Bank of Scotland H.Q. at Gogarburn for allowing access to the building and giving permission to photograph the Memorial.
It is situated on a side wall and rather difficult to picture but at least we have it here.

It's not that clear from the photograph but the soldier is holding a Bren Gun rather than the usual rifle.
