THE PEOPLE'S JOURNAL: 15.02.1919
KINFAUNS - SOLDIER'S FUNERAL

Never before has such an impressive funeral taken place in this quiet parish as that witnessed on Saturday, when the remains of Pte. Alex. Sharp, 4/5th Black Watch, son of Mr and Mrs Sharp, Binn Cottages, were laid to rest in the churchyard of Kinfauns. The obsequies were after the military form, the Black Watch band and firing party being in attendance. Lieut.-Col. R. S. Davidson, minister of the parish, officiated, and as the cortege wound its way slowly along the picturesque road many spectators could be seen viewing it from the various points of vantage. Pte. Sharp died in a military hospital in Lancashire.

Mark

He was aged 28 but nothing else to be found on him. You will need to obtain the DC to see what it reveals. Send me an e-mail if you get it.

The reference for Alexander Sharp is: District - Leigh, Volume 8C, page 448.

I cannot believe I first posted this more than six years ago - quite incredible!

I finally sent for the death certificate and it confirmed Alex was a private in the 4/5th Black Watch dying of influenza and pneumonia.

He is an 'in service' death and details forwarded to Terry Denham.

Good news Mark. It's good to see this case is back on track again.
