I'm delighted to announce that the new Camelon War Memorial will be unveiled on Saturday 23rd April 2016.

I don't have a detailed programme yet, but as soon as I have any details, I will post here.

Great news.

Will it be open to anyone to attend? I'd like to be there.

Anne,
Will the name of William Anderson, 1st Cameron Highlanders, be on it?

This is just the sort of question anyone compiling a list of names ninety five years later likes to see seven weeks before unveiling Wink

Better now than afterwards though.

Cheers

Just had a sneak preview of the memorial which (in my humble opinion) is stunning. It wont be to everybody's taste, but will be one of the most unique designs I've seen in Scotland.

I hadn't seen any notifications since I posted in February - don't know why that happened as the notification box was ticked?

Anyway, next Saturday, the 23rd is the big day. I've had my 'official' invitation and as well as being chuffed to bits, I'm now quite excited as it's been a long time coming to fruition.

Unfortunately, it's now only going to be WW1 names. I had added about another 100 names to the the list they already had and when I started researching WW2, I realised that the 'head count' was going to almost, if not more than double what they had for this as well. However, to cut a big long story short, there will be new panels added and the Memorial will be complete for Remembrance Day in November of this year.

The unveiling is taking place at 12 noon at Lock 16, Camelon.

Anne.

P.S. Derek - if it's William Anderson, No. 5981 then yes, he's there.

Photos taken today, 20th April 2016. Three days to the unveiling and it's major tidy-up time!

Hopefully this good spell of weather will keep up!

Anne - what stunning photos!
Have a great day and a well deserved "good one" but there must be photos of the hat and frock. We have the right to see!

I've just added another item to my "well, I never knew that" list!

It has been a much debated subject, down through the years, as to why natives of Camelon are called Mariners.
