I have traced a War memorial to KNARESBOROUGH PARISH CHURCH - St John the Baptist church of England church in Nowadays North Yorkshire but in 1917 in WEST RIDING OF YORKSHIRE

The Memorial is in brass and

Royal Flying Corps and the RFC Motto Per Ardua Ad Astra
In LOVING Memory
Of Lieutenant DAVID GIBSON TURNBULL
BLACK WATCH & RFC
KILLED IN THE SERVICE OF HIS COUNTRY
AT KNARESBOROUGH
15th APRIL 1917

(NO info on who supplied the memorial plaque viz his parents or his widow , she died in 1976 )

Wonder if there is a memorial to him or his name listed on the war memorial in the Church in Edinburgh he had his Military funeral in May 1917 - CHRIST CHURCH MORNINGSIDE EDINBURGH - Scottish Episcopal church ?

Pat - "spoons" has photo'd his grave stone in Dean Cemetery
http://scottishwargraves.phpbbweb.com/scottishwargraves-ftopic168.html (about 2/3rds of the way down page 1)
where he is named as DAVID S. G. TURNBULL which explains his CWGC entry (Stevens) and "your" memorial in Knaresborough (Gibson).

TURNBULL, DAVID STEVENS
Rank:Lieutenant
Date of Death:15/04/1917
Regiment/Service:Royal Flying Corps and Black Watch (Royal Highlanders
