I hear that the DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY MUSEUM is to close and the council are to store the contents as only 39,000 folks visited the museum recently ,.
I hear that the museum was a good museum and busy too for visitors .
I have no connections to the DLI but don't like to see a regimental museum close

I hear that there has been some newspaper reports on the closure and folks are not happy with the councils closure of this famous Regimental history and yes they got 39,000 folks through the doors which I thought was good but not good enough for a council

Unfortunately I do not think this will be the last such closure. Councils - and the MoD which also gives a level of support to some such institutions - have to deal with significant funding pressures... 'Regimental' museums are often rather old-fashioned in appearance/layout, don't get many visitors - though 39k is actually quite a lot - and some of the regiments were amalgamated a long time ago (1968 for DLI) meaning fewer 'old boys' etc.
There often seem to be worries over KOSB Museum near me.
Hopefully local pressure can resist such closures, or look to keep the facility going as an 'independent'. |
