Any thoughts/preference on the following before I get too far on.

Spoons has probably got round more churches than anyone so far (by the way I was looking at his church listing and its a tremendous effort) although I'm chipping away at them too.
I'd thought about starting to tidy up the Perthshire church threads and listings. However more often than not Spoons has been itemising each memorial separately, that is using a separate thread for the different memorials (WW1, WW2, Rolls of Honour) although they are from the same church.

I've been posting the memorials together in the same 'church thread' though for any memorials that have come from other churches, usually the U.F. Churches, I've been using a separate thread.

I was starting to differentiate each memorial in the listings but linking them to the same 'church thread' they appear in.

Still with me!!?

The question is should we be using separate threads for each memorial (even from the same church) or does it not really matter which way we do it?.

Mark

At the beginning I did do a few together but where churches have closed or amalgamated then it can get very confusing. For example the memorials for the old Laurieknowe church are now in 2 different churches. I also wanted to put the name of the church/parish etc in the title so people could more easily find what they were looking for from the listings. If you think of any of the major cathedrals, it would be crazy to try and put all the memorials on a single post (it would take a long time to load and search through).

In any case, separate entries are needed in the listings for each memorial. However, if we are to list multiple memorials in a single thread, should it be for their present location or the original location?

I think these issues are really why I began posting them all individually.

Incidentally, apart from the Church of Scotland website at http://www.churchofscotland.org.uk/contact/contactmap.htm, you should also try the Scottish Episcopal site at http://www.scotland.anglican.org/index.php/church_directory which I only just found today.

Yeah! I'm going with Spoons here. I will, as a general rule, individualise each separate memorial albeit from the same church, I think it makes sense. IF the UKNIWM get round to it they can be allocated their own Ref No.
I have started breaking up some threads so memorials that have appeared previously will show as 'new' ones. Bear with me it shouldn't be too much of an effort - although this may have to be concentrated on during the winter months. I've got to keep getting out there and photographing the memorials themselves at the moment.

My thoughts exactly, I know some of you have been photographing memorials since Pontius was a pilot but, I am still very new to the game and I have been photographing mine as I go along with no big back catalogue to draw on. Along with Mark, I will concentrate on getting the data while the seasons are good and the research and sorting are down to the winter months.

Sorry I'm a bit late in joining this thread. We should have a seperate entry for each memorial on the forum, and on the lists.

When I've been doing the church memorials in the lists I usually start with the town name so it can make it a bit easier to find. I'd be surprised if a memorial from a closed church has moved to a new town. (Although there are bound to be some)!

I also include memorials I have found references to in 1920s newspapers in the hope that they are still around. If you find any references to old memorials which haven't been posted please include them in any updated list.

Cheers

Adam
