I am including this one because it is a product of the talented Scots sculptor Alexander Carrick. I know how much thought went into the fine detail of the surroundings of this monument - the wall, the railings, the steps - so it is distressing to see the amount of street furniture cluttering up the immediate area today. It is impossible to get a decent general photograph without bus shelters and street lighting intruding. I include a photograph from the artist's studio.

It's also probably worth having this memorial on the forum for the large numbers of Berwick men who served in Scottish Regiments. Men listed on the Tweedsmouth and Spittal War memorials also appear on this memorial so if anyone has any other Berwick memorials they should include them here.

Adam,
I have cast about Berwick but have found nothing more. The Parish church has nothing and, amazingly, the K.O.S.B. barracks has nothing. |

Apart from the main memorial in Berwick two other smaller community memorials can be found. One at Tweedsmouth and the other at Spittal. Most of the names on these two memorials can also be found on the main memorial.
According to the North-East War memorials project there are several memorials in Berwick. Check them out here:
http://www.newmp.org.uk/
They’ve got a drop down list of towns and Berwick has many listed.
There are also these memorials in Berwick with a Scottish connection which we’ve got listed on the Outside Scotland list. Most of this list has been compiled from the NEWMP list. Note that there is a memorial room within the barracks. It looks like if you don't see the memorial room you'll not see any memorials!

I’ve got photos of the Spittal memorial which I will post once I’ve got them onto photobucket.

I see. I did go to the barracks and specifically asked whether there were any memorials there at all. I was told 'no'. |

It doesn't surprise me, just yesterday I asked to see a memorial in a hall and was told there wasn't one. I got a bit insistant and was told firmly, all we have is a painting, some photos and a roll of honour - definately no memorials! I apologised for my poor description, took my photos and left

If it doesn't have any names on it then it's not a memorial!
A lesson for me from Spoons as well. When I start contacting the local churches here in Edinburgh I'll have to be a bit more specific than just asking about 'war memorials'.
