Just curious - any one heard of Southfield House in Stirling:?
Dumfries & Galloway Standard 17/11/15 p.5
Mr. Arthur Midgley, formerly representative of the Royal Insurance Company at Dumfries has been commissioned as Second Lieutenant in the 11th Battalion Gordon Highlanders. Mr Midgley joined the motor machine gun service a year ago and has been in Belgium for four months. Four months after he joined he was promoted to the rank of sergeant. He is now in training at the School of Instruction, Southfield House, Stirling. _________________ Ken |

This is bothering me!! I can't find any reference to Southfield House in WW1. The current Southfield House B&B (on Melville Terrace, almost next to the Terraces Hotel) used to be called Woodville but I can't find out when the name changed - after 1879 is the best I can do.
SouthWOOD House, on nearby Southfield Crescent (yes, I know it's confusing!!) was turned over to the VAD for war work in 1914 but was used as a Red Cross Hospital, first for Belgians and then NCO's and finally for officers. It was owned by Mr & Mrs Forrester of Annfield (later Stirling Albion's ground); incidentally, their son Hugh Fielding Forrester was killed at Kut in 1916.
I do hope someone else can come up with the info! |

I didn't mean to give extra researching but it's the detective work I enjoy.
Good luck all. _________________ Researching WWI info from Aberdeenshire, Banffshire, Kincardineshire & Morayshire. |
