AUCHTERARDER SOLDIERS KILLED.
Information was received yesterday morning that Lance-Corporal Alex. Bayne, Black Watch, had been killed in the fighting at the beginning of the month.

Lance-Corporal Bayne, who was 25 years age, was the son of the late Mr Wm. Bayne, plasterer, Auchterarder. He served his apprenticeship with Mr George Eadie, baker, and prior to the war was working as a journeyman in Coldstream. He had served his full time as a Territorial, but at the outbreak of war immediately rejoined.

Information was also received yesterday by Mrs M'lntosh, grocer, Castleton, Auchterarder, that her son, Private Alex. M'lntosh, Black Watch, had been killed. Private M'lntosh was about 23 years of age. He was mobilised as a Territorial at the outbreak of war. He was a painter to trade, and was working with Mr Alex. Robertson prior to the war.

DUNBLANE
Since the present operations commenced in the West no fewer than eight Dunblane soldiers have fallen, while a number more are among the wounded. Those reported killed during the past day or two are Sergeant Peter Gardiner, postman; Private Matthew McKie, son of Mrs McKie, Kirk Street; Private Peter Bradie, formerly of Ramoyle, whose father is now golf professional at Saltcoats; and Lance-Corporal George Brough, Kirk Street.
Sergeant Gardiner was actively identified with football in the Cathedral City, and was an official of the Dunblane Club, and frequently represented it at the Perthshire Association Meetings. He fell beside his officer, Captain Hally, Auchterarder, and is buried in the same grave. The wounded include Sergeant Joe Williamson, son of Mr Peter Williamson, master slater; Private M Monaghan; and Private McInroy, a brother of Dunblane’s first D.C.M.

Falkirk Herald, 19th June 1915. ‘Camelon man Killed’

Pte William Mason, D Company, 6th Black Watch, who resided at 177 High Street, Auchterarder, has been killed in action. The news was received on Thursday evening from Corporal John Wilson of the same company. It appears from the accounts to hand that Pte. Mason was in charge of a telephone in the officers’ dug-out in the first line of trenches on the evening of 13th-14th inst., when two shells in immediate succession struck the dug-out and smashed the place to bits. Lieutenant Haldane, son of Sir William Haldane of Foswell, the Crown Agency, was mortally wounded and Pte Mason was buried in the debris. On recovery of the body, life was found to be extinct. Pte. Mason, who was a son of Mr John Mason, Aveleyhall Terrrace, camelon, was a native of Camelon and went to Auchterarder about five years ago, where he entered the office of Messrs Reid and Hill, solicitors, there. His early training was recived with Messrs John and W. K. Mair and Gibson, writers, Falkirk. He was a young man of exceptional promise and both in his native town and in Auchterarder had endeared himself to a host of friends through his many excellent qualities. Pte. Mason was a member of the Auchterarder Parish Choir and a teacher in the Sunday School. He was 23 years of age and joined the regiment a little over two years ago, leaving with the 6th for the firing line on May 1st. His father and brother are serving with the Forces.

Commemorated on Auchterarder War Memorial is:

McCulloch, Issac, Pte. 8th K.O.Y.L.I.

Isaac was born on 19th August, 1857 at Craigs, Stirling (SDGW shows Cupar Angus, Perth).

He was KIA on 7th June, 1917 - just short of his 60th birthday.

I searched for his overseas death entry to see what aged showed for him but I cannot find this.

There is a pic of him from the Perth edition of the People`s Journal of 28th July 1917 showing a much younger man and an address of Letham Farm,Stanley. He is also on the Auchtergaven Memorial.
The son of the 60 year old?

I have found an Isaac (shown as Isaae) McCulloch in the 1911 census. A ploughman at Easter Drumatherty Bothy, Caputh aged 17, shown as born Coupar Angus.

Not getting him on Scotland's People though. Moving forward.....a bit.

This is WMR 55176, not the WW2 memorial as stated in the index.

Note that the transcription above has omitted 21 names, the whole of the final image-the plaque which ends with James Maxtone

Not on the transcription but on the War Memorial is:

He and his brother Adam are named on the Melrose War Memorial in Roxburghshire as:

PRIVATE G. GORDON.
George Andrew Gordon – age 35 – Private (S/19074) 10th Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.
George became a full-time postman in Melrose in June 1900 and later moved to the same job in Auchterarder, Perthshire. He married there in 1910. He enlisted as Private (7635) in the 2/4th Battalion of the King's Own Scottish Borderers in January 1915 and was a piper. He transferred as Private (37423) to the 2nd Garrison Battalion of the Royal Scots in October 1916 before transferring again to the Argylls in December. George joined the 10th Battalion in France in April 1917.

Born 1882 Melrose. Son of James and Euphemia (Drummond) Gordon of Dingleton, Melrose.

Killed in Action on 20 October 1917 and buried in Minty Farm Cemetery, Belgium.

Adam Drummond Gordon – age 20 – Private (S/16468) 7th Battalion, Cameron Highlanders.
Born 1896 in Melrose.
Missing in Action on 17 August 1916 and named on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme, France.
