Kirkintilloch Herald - Wednesday 05 May 1920 UNVEILING OF WAR MEMORIAL (poem) The first War Memorial to erected Kirkintilloch was that in the baptist Church, which was unveiled by Mrs. Ramsay, Maybole (mother the minister the church, at a special service on Sabbath afternoon. There was a crowded congregation, extra accommodation having to be provided the placing of the passages. The service conducted Rev. John Macbeath, M.A., Cambuslang, who preached upon "The Necessity of Remembrance,” as insisted upon in the opening chapter of the 2nd Epistle of Peter— ”I think it meet ... to stir you up by putting you remembrance,” That day, he said, they were fixing memorial tablet in the Church of Jesus Christ to keep them always in remembrance. … The memorial is of white marble, with a dark vein, and measures 3ft. in height, bv 2ft. 3in. broad. It was designed by Messrs. Scott & Rae, Ltd., Glasgow, and sculptured them. It is placed in the north gable, hung on the surface of the wall. It is in the form of a sunk panel, whereon are the names of the fallen, surmounted by floral swag (laurel leaves fastened with a ribbon), and surrounded by a Cavetto moulding, with pateras at intervals. The lettering is of the Roman character, and is done in lead. The tablet bears the inscription; "To the glory of God, and in memory of the men of this Church who fell in the Great War, 1914-19.” Then follow the names : James Brown, R.A.M.C, Aaron Dickens, H.L.I. Frank Findlay, S.R. James Forsyth, A. & S.H. William Hendrie, G.H. John M'Pherson, R.G.A. Charles M. M‘Farlane, R.N.D. Robert Queen, R.H. Peter Russell, R.S.F. Ralph White, N.Z.R.

As the Church has now moved from it's then premises it is unclear if this survives.

Given that the plaque pictured above (which is WMR 83377)has a totally different set of WW1 names I wonder if it originated in a different church
