Came across this tiny wee plaque inside the ruins of Killearn Old Kirk.

Captain, Ernest Pellew Orr-Ewing, Captain, Scots Guards, died 15th September 1916 aged 33, son of Sir Archibald and Lady Orr-Ewing of Ballikinrain, Killearn.

Wigtownshire Free Press (28/9/1916): Captain Ernest Pellew Orr-Ewing, Scots Guards, second son of Sir Archibald and the Hon. Lady Orr-Ewing, killed in action on September 15, was born on January 29 1883. He was educated at Eton, and received a commission in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in 1901, transferring to the Scots Guards in 1904. He left the regiment in 1909 and went to Canada, but returned soon after the outbreak of war. He obtained a commission in the Scots Guards and joined his regiment in February 1915.
