This is the memorial plaque to the Bank of Scotland, situated inside the banks Headquarters on The Mound in Edinburgh. I was told that due to this it's off-limits to the public. However, I think if you said you had a relative on it they would let you in to have a look.
I managed to get in by showing them my staff ID. However, they still had to contact the Press Office to see if I could take photographs!
These photos don't give you any idea of the size of this memorial. I had to step back so far to get it all in that I ended up in another room!
First World War names:
Second World War names:
This is one of the memorials I'm researching, so if any of these names ring a bell with anyone, get in touch!

David,
is this memorial still within the building on the Mound?
I saw a memorial within the Bank of Scotland office on St Andrew Square which looked similar - did not have camera at the time. |

Yes, this is still in The Mound.
The one you are referring to is the memorial for the British Linen Bank. |

267068 James Gordon Falconer on this memorial was an employee at the Carnoustie Bank of Scotland.
He is listed on the Barry memorial (under the R.E.) and has a lengthy biography in the Arbroath & District RoH.
S/9039 Joseph Hanton is on the Arbroath, Arbroath High School and St. Vigean's memorials. Although this memorial incorrectly lists him as a Pte when he was a L/Cpl.
According to his biography in the Arbroath RoH Hanton worked at the Arbroath branch until he was appointed head clerk in Edinburgh. |

My list of sources provided by the Bank archives has:
WWI - Bank of Scotland Roll of Honour, 1914-1918. List of Members of Staff who served in His Majesty's Forces during the Great War 1914-1918.
Those marked with X killed in action or died of wounds
Not sure if it was printed for internal use, or if it was generally available.
I there's a particular name you're looking for let me know and I'll check my sources, as I have quite a fair amount of info on the men on the memorial. |

This is the first time I've become aware of this memorial - so thanks for the prompt guys.
The name GAVIN BARBOUR sounded familiar and turned out to be one of "mine"
He's named on the Kirkbean Parish War Memorial, formerly in Kirkcudbrightshire, as:

Gavin served his apprenticeship as a banker with the Bank of Scotland in Dumfries before becoming a Teller at the Strathaven Branch, Lanarkshire.
He enlisted in January 1915 in the KOSB before transferring to Royal Scots and then to the KOYLI.
The family grave inscription in Kirkbean Churchyard has him as Royal Scots attached to 8th KOYLI
Born 1896 at New Abbey, Kirkcudbrightshire. Son of Francis and Margaret (Graham) Barbour of West Park, Beeswing, Kirkcudbrightshire.
The family were resident at Tallowquhairn Farm in 1901.
Died of Wounds 21 September 1917 at a Canadian Casualty Clearing Station.
Commonwealth War Grave Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium. _________________ Ken |
