This needs some explanation - Laurieknowe church is now closed, bricked up and looks quite sad. I have not photographed it but can do if anyone wants it (it is only around the corner from me). The memorials survived and were moved elsewhere but I thought it appropriate to bring them back together as they originally were.

(date not known) The War Memorial Gates at Old Laurieknowe Church Manse in Maxwellton received a grant of £200.00 towards renovation and repainting. The Gates were also moved to Maxwelltown West Church to ensure long-term maintenance.
The gates commemorate those who gave their lives in both the First and Second World War. They were made by a blacksmith, Mr Johnston, and erected in the 1940's.
The WW1 and WW2 memorials from Laurieknowe church were moved to Troqueer church on closure of the former.

UKNIWM Ref: 44294
UKNIWM Ref: 44293

OS Map Ref: NX 975 751
The gates are not listed on UKNIWM

This further memorial is of all those served from Lauriknowe, those who did not return are marked and this ties up with the separate memorial of the dead.

This memorial is not listed on UKNIWM and like the other memorials, is now in Troqueer church.

I've changed my mind, thought that I would post a couple of pics of the disused Lauriknowe church after all!

I was not happy with the quality of a couple of pictures on the original post so I have edited it with some better quality pics.

From the War Memorials Trust......................

War memorial gates in Maxwelltown (WM2545) were moved from the redundant Old Laurieknowe Church manse to Maxwelltown West Church in 1999 supported with a £200 grant.
