I noticed Fort William wasn't listed so far, so until we get a modern picture of this one here's a photograph from "Miss MacDougalls Photo Album".

Interestingly the UKNIWM entry states that the rifle was missing when the original entry to them was submitted - the rifle has been replaced but it it wooden and is now showing signs of wear.
Also, the original fence at the front of the memorial has been removed. When I visited, this allowed a couple of young girls to clamber all over the memorial provoking no reaction from their mother at all.
(This reinforced everything I've ever thought about Fort William)

Interesting to see that the hotel in the original picture has had a whacking great ugly extension added to it.

Was the original wooden? That might expalin why it was missing in the first place if it had rotten away.

I bet you the next one is fibreglass.
