WW1

Tillicoultry Church Visitors Guide:

"The handsome brass lectern bears the inscription "To the Glory if God, a Thank Offering on the Occasion of the Centenary of Tillicoultry Parish Church, 26th July, 1929. C.U. and Gray L. Gibson.

Mrs. Gray Gibson unveiled a lectern, which she and her son had so generously gifted to the church and was no doubt thinking of her late husband Captain J. Gray Gibson, whose name is the second listed on the World War 1 Memorial.

As with the war memorial, it is thought that the lectern was made by Willison and Son, Forthbank Foundry, Alloa."

Not strictly a memorial, but given that Captain Gibson Gray was killed in WW1, it's could be considered a tribute albeit not inscribed as such.

What an interesting looking church, but who let them stick that brick "lean-to" on the right wall!

A name on the WW2 panel caught my eye.
MYLCHREEST, ALEXANDER.
Rank:Lance Corporal
Service No:2562442
Date of Death:01/07/1940
Regiment/Service:Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders 7th Bn.
Grave Reference:Row F. Grave 16.
Cemetery:ST. POL WAR CEMETERY

The Army Roll of Honour has him as born in Lanarkshire, resident in Clackmannanshire.

There are (to my surprise) 14 men of that name on the CWGC Register, mainly linked to the north-west of England and the Isle of Man.

I agree Ken. I've driven past it a million times and hap always wondered what it would be like inside.

The parents and siblings of James Dalgleish Pollok,V.C. and his brother George are listed on a family gravestone in the adjacent churchyard, see:

http://scottishwargraves.phpbbweb.com/viewtopic.php?t=404&highlight=tillicoultry&mforum=scottishwargraves

There is a ceremony today (Sunday 27th September, 2015) as 2 plaques are being unveiled to Tillicoultry's 2 V.C.'s in the Main Sreet (James Dalgleish Pollock and his second cousin James Lennox Dawson). Unfortunately I wasn't able to go along.
