Neither of these men are 'officially' commemorated but after some legwork lots of digging (not literally) and not mentioning much hair pulling, they have both been forwarded to IFTC this week with all the necessary documentation.

They were both buried in Gartmore Churchyard.

Pte. James Cameron, KOSB, No. 8846 (died 1917) lies in Row 5, Lair 16.

Pte. Archibald James Graham, Gordons, No. S/10224 (died 1918) lies in Row 5, Lair 3.

Gartmore Churchyard is tiny (somewhere between 400-450 Lairs) and I find it incredible to find 2 confirmed 'non-comms' there.

The Churchyard can be seen here:
http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=9273&highlight=gartmore

Archie and James are in the 1st row to the left of the path just inside the gate (the western half).

Anne

I have you and Ken Morrison to thank for a lot of help Mark!

Two (or three) heads are always better than one.

Perhaps it is not so incredible that there are two non-comms in one small graveyard. If both these men died at home perhaps the local registrar didn't know he had to inform the War Office/ Imperial War Graves Commission of the deaths?

Perhaps there are other cemeteries out there where one non-comm has been identified to date but there are actually more still to find in the same location because of the working practices of the local registrar?

Great work though everyone, it's good to see these men being identified.

Kind regards

Adam

Wasn't able to amend the title to **Now Commemorated**.

I'm absolutely delighted to say both these men are now 'In From the Cold' and have been added to the UK Book of Remembrance.

CWGC have now got to the stage of appealing for relatives.

and I've just realised that the schedule does not have a cemetery number since this burial ground was not known to have war dead.

So a triple "well done" for Anne Very Happy

Made a point of visiting Gartmore Churchyard on Tuesday 14th March 2017 to see if any stones or plaques had been erected. Unfortunately, nothing yet and no CWGC sign on the gates.

Well spotted Ken - I didn't know anything about it and would have loved to be there.

I went back at the beginning of this month (June) just to check and nothing had been done.

I suppose I'll just have to content myself knowing that if it hadn't been for me being nosey, they maybe would never have been identified.
