Very nice indeed, well done Kelso.

It was also very heartening to see a wreath from Kelso Community Council laid at the Helles Memorial on the 12th July.

Well done indeed.
I did a quick search on the CWGC site and was astonished to see that there are 293 men of the 1/4th (Border) Battalion of the KOSB named as having died on 12 July 1915.
I knew the KOSB battalions had been hit hard -the 1/5th (Dumfries and Galloway) lost 50 men that day - but I had not realised the extent of the loss in the Borders.
There are 17 names where Kelso appears in the "Additional Information" section. Clearly from the photos there were many more. I cannot imagine the impact this must have made on the community.
Thanks for posting this Ian.

Apparently, there were 42 men from the Kelso area who were killed on the 12th. It was Bill Quarry from Kelso who laid the wreath at the Cape Helles Memorial.

Is there anything known about the memorial plaque?

"a special plaque commemorating Gallipoli is to be erected in East Bowmont Street, known locally as ‘The Dardanelles’, in a project with the Friends of Kelso Museum."

I did see a plaque (I think it was a prototype) at the WW1 exhibition put on last week by the Friends of Kelso Museum. I will look out for it and post here.

Well done Bill Quarry:
The Hawick pilgrims to Helles found this wreath laid there on the 12th July, 2015:

Where is the new stone located? Is it near the war memorial?

Thanks
