Further research has revealed that the identification of David Hall on the new Falkland memorial, as Private David Hall, Black Watch from Dundee is incorrect.

The correct identification is:
2562372 Private David Wylie Hall
58th Battalion, Canadian Infantry (2nd Central Ontario Regiment)
Died of wounds on 28 August 1918 in a Canadian Field Ambulance
Aged c34
Only son of William Hall of Falkland
Buried in Achicourt Road Cemetery, Achicourt, Pas de Calais, grave reference D26

The correct identification was made following discovery of an entry by his father in the Dundee, Perth, Forfar and Fife People's Journal, issue 21 September 1918.

The war memorial plaques in Falkland Kirk and in the War Memorial Institute (now in the Falkland Community Hall) just listed the name David Hall and, in searching for a local connection, Private Hall, BW, from Dundee was (incorrectly) indentified.

David Wylie Hall had been working as a butler in New York and travelled to Toronto in July 1917 to enlist in the CEF.

RIP both Private David Hall.
