Brass plaque commemorating the fallen of both world wars. The names listed are identical to those on the village war memorial, but there are minor differences in the ranks given.

An additional plaque (transcription below) has been added to commemorate the death of:

Major-General Victor Morven Fortune KBE, CB, DSO
who died of 2nd January 1949
of illness contracted while a prisoner
of war in Germany from 1940 to 1945
"None of us liveth to himself"

WW2: Victor Fortune was Commanding Officer of the 51st Highland Division, which helped defend the beach-head during the Dunkirk evacuation. After the evacuation, the 51st Division fought its way along the coast but was eventually cut off at the small port of St. Valery-en-Caux and forced to surrender. General Fortune and the bulk of the division were marched off to captivity in Germany.

General Fortune's health declined in the POW camp but he refused repatriation - he was captured with his men, so he was staying with them.

WW1: 1914, Lieut., 1st Black Watch; 1916, C.O. 1st Black Watch at Battle of the Somme; 1918, C.O. 46th Brigade, 15th (Scottish) Division; awarded DSO and Legion d'Honneur, and Mentioned in Despatches five times.
