Sanquar War Memorial has changed over the years as posted here. However we visited the Memorial last week and discovered that the cairn has gone. A local resident told me that some people felt it wasn’t appropriate and it was then decided to source funding and provide a more suitable memorial.
Here is the new plinth awaiting a World War 1 soldier figure. The plants have just been planted and the whole memorial should be finished later this month. It is not certain whether the plaques on the wall will be moved to the new plinth or remain in place on the wall.
The poppies were made by local school children and “planted” at last year’s Remembrance service. They have not been vandalised as were the wreaths from previous years. The children have a pride in what they achieved with the poppies.
I will go back and photograph the completed War Memorial.
