"CASUALTIES Notes on Officers SEAFORTH HIGHLANDERS
Mr NOEL SUTHERLAND.
- Lieut. Noel Sutherland, who was 24 years of age, was the sixth son of the Rev. A.N. Sutherland, M'Cheyne Memorial Church, Dundee. He was a native of Rothesay and was attending the West of Scotland Agricultural College, Glasgow, when he enlisted in October, 1914. After receiving his commission he was posted to the Seaforth Highlanders."

"CASUALTIES Notes on Officers.
Mr DAVID MORRISON. CANADIANS
. Lieutenant David Morrison, Canadians, who is reported as having been killed, was a son of the late Mr Archibald Morrison, Craigberoch Farm and Bush Cottage, and of Mrs Morrison, Toward View, Rothesay. He was 26 (sic) years of age and before leaving Bute for Canada some years ago was a promising athlete. He spent a few days on leave in Rothesay four or five weeks ago."

Sea Scout James McArravy.

McArravy was 14 years old and was a Boy Scout. He was killed in a railway collision on 15th June 1918. He and two other boy scouts were travelling to Aberdeen to do coast duty when an engine crashed into the Grampian Express in which they were travelling. McArravy was in the corridor of the carriage and was killed instantly.

Two employees of the Caledonian Railway Company were charged with culpable homicide but the case was found to be Not Proven.

"Deaths on Service.
FISHER.-
Died of wounds received in action, on Sunday, 6th May, Captain John Campbell Fisher, Royal Scots Fusiliers, aged 23 years, third son of ex-Provost Fisher, Orlington, Rothesay."

Same publication, day, date:-
"CASUALTIES Notes on Officers ROYAL SCOTS FUSILIERS
Captain J. C. FISHER.-
Killed. Ex-Provost Fisher, Rothesay, has received a telegram intimating the death, on Sunday, from wounds of his third son, Captain John Campbell Fisher, Royal Scots Fusiliers. Captain Fisher was slightly wounded in the Somme fighting, and in recognition of his bravery in taking charge of his company when all the other officers were killed or wounded, he was promoted captain."

Memorial says Captain; newspaper says Captain; SNWM say A/Capt; CWGC says Major ... and Captain.
Medal index ticket records:- A/Capt and Major (there is a cross against Major and the first entry which is 2nd Lt.).
France, 29th September, 1915.

Meanwhile the following Ninian Duncan is not to be confused with the other Rothesay born, but slightly older, Ninian Duncan, labourer, who served with the 4th Highland Mountain Battery outfit (R.G.A. [T.F.]) and survived the war. Service Nr. 2546/300541. His British service record is online. There might even be another Rothesay Ninian Duncan - 309541.
