Kenny,

Sorry for taking so long to reply. I missed this post completely.

I can confirm the Plaque was moved and is displayed in the New Kingsland.

The new school is situated on the Western approach to the town opposite Hay Lodge park.

Derek,

Just as a point of interest. Adrian Lucas (dad) and family run a football tournament every year (Alec Lucas Memorial Tournament) in memory of Alec.

All money raised goes to Local charities and also the Royal Marines Benevolent Fund.

R L Callan listed on the Peebles memorial was the son of William Callan & Margaret Lauriston who lived at Eshiels, just to the east of Peebles. Robert was born at Lyne in 1887. His parents married at Crawfordjohn in 1878.

Can anyone conform for me please that the J. Smith of Peebles listed in the WW2 panel is:

What an amazing archive footage.

Apart from Douglas Haig, John Buchan appears on the film as well.

Could you confirm that C R MURRAY is Charles Robinson Murray a science master at Kingsland School, Peebles when he enlisted?

2nd Lt. KOSB DoD 18/9/1916. Born 1883 Tongland, Kirkcudbrightshire.

Many thanks

Hi Malcolm,

I have just read this post and can confirm that there is a plaque to Charles Murray displayed in the school.

The Glasgow Herald, Saturday, 24th. February, 1917.
"A brass tablet which has been placed on the wall of the hall of Kingsland Public School, Peebles, by the teachers, in memory of Second Lieutenant Charles L. (sic) Murray, who was a member of the staff, was unveiled yesterday afternoon by the Rev. Dr. Martin, in the unavoidable absence of Sir Henry Ballantyne, chairman of Peebles School Board."

I have to say the brass plaque looks absolutely first class. Well looked after. (Many thanks for the help, Ken.)
