Another one from Rothesay and Bute.

Donald McK Mathieson is in the memorial album, and also the North Bute memorial.

The memorial album lists him as Royal Engineers, killed in action January 1918.

The war memorial adds that he was in the Australian Expeditionary Force.

CWGC has no matches, nor does SNWM. Ancestry and Find My Past have no matches. There's also no matches in the Australian Archives.

So...coming up blank with this one.

I think this is your man but note the spelling of his family name and the date:

MATHESON, D. McK.
Rank:Sapper
Service No:354
Date of Death:10/11/1916
Regiment/Service:Australian Tunnelling Corps 1st Coy.
Grave Reference:VI. O. 25.
Cemetery:RAILWAY DUGOUTS BURIAL GROUND (TRANSPORT FARM)
Additional Information:

His attestation paper in his service file has an amendment to change his mother's address to 6 Victoria Place, Port Bannatyne, Bute.
He states that he was born in Glasgow.
He enlisted in December 1915 at Casula, NSW.

The AIF Project gives his name as Donald McKay Matheson
https://www.aif.adfa.edu.au/search?type=search&name=matheson&regNum=354&place=

I guess his rank and unit explains the "RE - AIF" on the Port Bannatyne War Memorial?
