Surname on Memorial has different spelling to the name on the War Memorial Hospital "Brodick" panel at Lamlash, but it doesn't make a lot of difference as both memorials are woefully incorrect.

Sergt. S/4896 George F. Gouldthorp, 9th (Service) Battalion, Black Watch.
Service Nr. is very close to that of William T. McIntyre (S/4900). Maybe they enlisted together..

The Glasgow Herald, Monday, 11th September, 1916.
"In Memoriam.
LAWSON.-
In loving memory of Trooper Simon Lawson, the Carabiniers, who was killed in Sauchiehall Street, 11th September, 1915- Anna Nixon, 124, York Drive, Hyndland."
(I am jumping to conclusions here with the surname Nixon as it's a bit of a murky print, and what the connection is to Brodick, we still do not know.)

Final word I think:- The Glasgow Herald, Monday, 13th September, 1915, page 6:- "SCOTTISH NEWS While Private James Quin, of the 4th Seaforth Highlanders, who has just returned from the front on furlough, was leaving a tramcar at the corner of Renfield Street and Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow, on Saturday night, his rifle went off accidentally. The bullet struck Private Simon Lawson, of the 6th Dragoon Guards, residing at 124 York Street, Hyndland, who died after admission to the Royal Infirmary. Quin has been taken into custody."

Same publication, Tuesday, 14th September, 1915, page 6. Report that following a hearing at Glasgow Northern Police Court on Monday, 13th, Private Quin was remanded in custody for two days. ".....Quin, at the time, was in a car proceeding to his home at 8 William Street, Cowcaddens. ... Lieutenant Campbell, Acting Fiscal, asked that Quin should be remanded for two days for inquiry, and Bailie Smith, who was on the bench, granted the request. The remand was for inquiry 'as to having, on September 11, in a tramcar in Renfield Street, Glasgow, recklessly discharged a rifle loaded with ball ammunition and fatally injured a soldier.'"

Same publication, Thursday, 16th September, 1915, page 8. Report that case was remitted to Sheriff Court where, in chambers, before Sheriff Craigie, Mr George Bradley, writer, appeared for accused Quin and asked that he be granted bail. Sheriff Craigie granted bail at £10.
