Coy Sergeant Major Hunter, John B (36) parents, 18a Seedhill Road, former employee Doulton’s - 17 years Army, came from India, served Egypt and Gallipoli – killed France, May 16, 1918.

Nothing on CWGC matching.

I did find a pre-1914 service record for a John Bryson Hunter, who was born in Paisley, but the details don't really match so it's unlikely to be this man. Could be another death after discharge case.

A Private John Hunter, 5/6th Scottish Rifles, died on the 8th May 1918. There's nothing to tie him to Paisley, so I'm not willing to say it's him at the moment.

From the Scotsman, date 23rd November 1915.

CWGC has this match, with a different battalion:

There is a photo of this man in the Evening Times of 24th November 1915. I shall get a copy and upload it later.

Thanks to Ron Moore at the Paisley Daily Express, we now have a picture of the memorial in a more complete state than its current condition.

The Paisley Daily Express ran an article on the memorial last Saturday, 11th May.

You can view it by clicking this link: http://s3.spanglefish.com/s/4132/documents/grave.pdf

There has been some contact with some people based in Paisley which have been very encouraging with regards to restoration. We're still in the process of making some enquiries but hopefully we will have some good news very soon.
