Kiltarlity - Inverness District

The Kiltarlity war memorial is a tall grey granite celtic cross with celtic wheel-head and central boss (wth the word 'PAX' carved on the face of the boss, and an intricate pattern of celtic knotwork carved in relief into the face of the tapering shaft and cross-head. The cross stands on a tapering pedestal and base. The commemoration and names of the dead are set in lead lettering on the dressed panel at the front of the pedestal.
The memorial stands in a raised and enclosed area at the roadside in the village.

Alexander Maitland's parents were Alex Maitland & Marjory/May McDougall, a sister of my grandmother Janet McDougall from Grotaig, Drumnadrochit. He was born at Guisachan in 1897. He is commemorated on the memorial at Tyne Cot Cemetery which we visited in 1973 and also on his parents gravestone at Kilmorack.
