According to the Return of Warrant Officers, NCO's and Men in the minor records of Scotlands People, Pte. Caddis was killed in action in France or Belgium on 26/8/14. In the same hand on the same page, a Pte. Angus Mackenzie is recorded as having died on 25 October 1914. while a prisoner of war and the location is recorded Hanbourden? in Germany.
This would infer that if they had information of Pte. Caddis having died as a prisoner, it would have been recorded.

Partial service record of David Caddis survives on Ancestry but it's not in good condition. Here are two relevant entries;

I wonder how James Caddis is related to David? Gotta be as they are the only two with that surname on CWGC and they're both on this memorial.

This might well be Haubourdin, near Lille.

I've seen that before where a death in hospital whilst a PoW was said to have been in Germany in a newspaper, when in fact it happened in a German hospital in occupied territory.

True. Most likely be the case here. Areas behind the German lines under their control were in effect part of Germany at the time.

Grave Registration ticket from 1921 records 57th Sqd. R.F.C. (not 59th as above.) Earlier Burial Concentration document records 57th. Sqd. likewise. CWGC misread?

Headstone schedules record Mr. James A. Morris, Wellington Chambers, Ayr.

Airmen Died in the Great War "Lt G T Morris and Lt J M Souter, 59 Sqn, Kia in RE8 A4190 WF".

59 Sqn were equipped with RE8s whereas 57 Sqn were equipped with FE2ds and later Airco DH4s so it was certainly a 59 Sqn aircraft.
