Last one from the memorial in Mochrum, Wigtownshire.
(Well there is a Private James Brown but I'm not going to ask about him!)

Private CHARLES McCAIG should be easy but...........
The only one who shows up is Gunner 192653 RFA d. 13/10/1917 and he's a Dalbeattie man and is on the WM there.

There three McCaigs on the Mochrum memorials and from the family grave and the local newspaper (thanks to Mike Morley) I know that Hugh and John were brothers.
I cannot make any family connection between Charles and Hugh/John and have run out of ideas!

The Register of Soldiers Effects for 192653 shows the widows name was Agnes. Also notes there was a child from the marriage.

Does that help to narrow it down?

David and Anne. Thanks for looking. That is the man who is on the Dalbeattie WM as:

DR. CHARLES Mc CAIG, R.F.A.

Charles McCaig – age 29 – Gunner (192653) “A” Battery, 58th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery.
Born 1888 at William Street, Dalbeattie. Son of Crawford and Elizabeth (Milley) McCaig.
Husband of Agnes (Gall – latterly Grierson) McCaig of Wallace St. Dumfries who he married at Closeburn, Dumfriesshire in 1914.
Missing in Action - 13 October 1917.

His family were originally from Closeburn and the father, Crawford McCaig, worked in the granite quarry in Dalbeattie.
So no obvious connection to the Port William, Wigtownshire lot - but I still cannot find another Charles McCaig death (military or civilian).
