"Information has been received by Mr & Mrs W. Paterson, Fairfield, Sauchie, that their son, Private Alexander Paterson, of the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, has been killed in action. He joined his regiment at the outbreak of war, and had taken part in many of the earlier battles. He was 28 years of age, a blacksmith to trade and unmarried."
