I found on Ancestry yesterday that you can see Soldiers Effects.
On this it gives details of KoN who were to get the effects. I am going down my database and looking at the ones meantime that I can't find info on so it's a task worth doing as once I find one with Father and sister & or brothers etc I can them work out the census and ages and update. Well try to anyway.

Yep, a great new resource.

If only all those pension docs hadn't been given to the WFA and were accessible online too.

I can't seem to get access. I have a premium subscription which covers the search but when I tried to access a record it says I have to upgrade.........to the international version!! ..............really??

So I went to the library and their library version of Ancestry does not even acknowledge that this exists at all!!

Not very impressed with Ancestry at the moment.

However if anyone can access these records, could you look up Joseph Byers please? Date of Death 6 Feb 1915.

I too use library ancestry access, unfortunately they use the .com version to which these records have not been added.

On my .co.uk free account I can search them by soldiers number and name, without seeing details of course.

Anyone needs look ups I'm available.

On the Joseph Byers note? Is this the Joseph Byers Royal Scots Fusiliers Shot at Dawn?

This is quite a strange one ..... 'Soldiers Effects' is not listed under the 'All Military' searches - they just seem to pop-up when you choose 'Look for X in other WW1 Records'.

Maybe they're being added at the moment and eventually a search field will be created?

Until then, we'll just have to keep trying and keeping our fingers crossed.

I guess you have the Worldwide subscription? My Premium sub lets me search the records but not view any I find.

The very same. It doesn't give anything new, but it does confirm his beneficiary's (sister's) name.

I'd recommend these for looking up soldiers who possibly served with an alias. The only one i was needing confirmed had it in these records Smile

Derek.

I just checked and you can do lookups on Library Edition. Look up the Recently added/Updated Collections.
