Campbell is remembered on the memorial within Holy Trinity Church in Stirling (probably because his father-in-law was the church organist there)

Belonged to Drummond family of Tract Enterprise fame; Husband of Dorothy Marchand Drummond, who died of fever at Kuala Lumpur, 12/12/1914; Educated at Stanley House, Bridge of Allan and Loretto School. Formerly played for Stirling County Cricket Club and High School FP Rugby Club; Rubber plantation manager in the Federated Malay States. Killed in action, battle of Loos, 25/09/1915, age 28. Commemorated on Loos Memorial, France

He is also commemorated on the memorial within St Columba's Church, Stirling; his family had a long association with this church and his father, uncle and cousin, Henry Drummond (also a Lorettian killed in action) were office bearers.
In 2013 a photo of Campbell was unearthed by a distant cousin William Trewalny-Vernon of Kent; his name was on the back (luckily!) and the cousin set about researching his story; he offered the photo to Loretto School. The story was in the East Lothian Courier:

Two brothers (both also on Stirling Civic Memorial and on Church of the Holy Rude Memorial) They were both born in Ayr. Hugh is also on the Cargilfield School Memorial.

Captain Hugh A Renwick MA (Cantab) AMICE, RAF, accidentally killed at Farnborough on Monday 19 August; 2nd son of Mr William Renwick of Langgarth; 27 years of age; educated at Cargilfield and Loretto; degree in technical science at Pembroke College, Cambridge in 1912; student for 2 years at Yarrow and Co, Shipbuilding Yard, Scotstoun; at the beginning of the war he obtained a commission in 5th Battalion South Wales Borderers; went to France in July 1915; shot in the chest in October 1915; in July 1916 was appointed to the experimental department of the Royal Air Factory in Farnborough; he was an observer on a flight when both pilot and observer were killed; youngest son, Lieutenant Tom B Renwick, rifle Brigade was killed in action in April 1915; eldest son Lieutenant William Somerville Renwick is a lieutenant in the RAF

1915 F.W.SMAIL.

Named on the memorials in Linton Parish, Roxburghshire.

Frank Weddell Smail – age 23 – Lieutenant, 1/7th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers.
Frank was educated at Berwick Grammar School and at Loretto School in Musselburgh until 1909. He studied farming near Duns in Berwickshire and by 1911 he was tenant of the farm at Linton Burnfoot. He had enlisted as a Private in the Lothians and Border Horse Yeomanry and was commissioned in the Territorial 7th Northumberland Fusiliers in May 1914. He landed with the battalion in France in April 1915 but was wounded in head by a sniper in June. He was evacuated to the Hospital for Officers at 24 Park Street in Mayfair, London but died there in December 1915.
Born 1892 in Berwick-on-Tweed, Northumberland. Son of the late Fanny Maria (Weddell) Smail (died 1900) and of Henry Richardson Smail, proprietor of the Berwick Advertiser, of Berwick-on-Tweed.
Died of Wounds on 1 December 1915 and buried in Berwick-Upon-Tweed Cemetery, Northumberland. (CWG)
Also named on the Berwick Borough War Memorial, on the Holy Trinity Church memorial, on the Freemen of the Borough memorial, on the Berwick Grammar School memorial and on the Loretto School memorial.

1918 W.F. SOMERVAIL.

William Fulton Somervail, Distinguished Service Order, Military Cross – age 26 – Captain, 2nd Battalion, Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) and Brigade Major 3rd Infantry Brigade.
William was educated at Loretto School in Musselburgh until 1911. He obtained a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Cameronians in August 1914 and joined the 1st battalion in France in January 1915. He was awarded a M.C. “For conspicuous gallantry, marked ability and presence of mind at Neuve Chapelle from 10th to 14th March, 1915, when he ably seconded his Commanding Officer and performed excellent work on his own initiative. On the evening of the 12th March he collected the men of his battalion and conducted them over unknown ground to a position for attack with very good judgment. He brought his Battalion out of action after the engagement on 14th March.” He was promoted to Lieutenant in the 2nd Battalion in April 1915, to Captain in June and fought at Loos and on the Somme. In July 1917 he took command of his Battalion again, was made Temporary Lieutenant-Colonel and awarded the D.S.O. In January 1918 he became Brigade Major, 3rd Infantry Brigade. William and his Brigadier, Sir William Algernon Ireland Kay, went out alone to reconnoitre the position at Joncourt near St. Quentin, and were found later lying dead, killed by the same shell.
Born 1892 in Edrom, Berwickshire. Son of James Alexander Somervail and of Isabella (Fulton) of Hoselaw, Linton, Roxburghshire.
Husband of Joyce Isabel (Munro) Somervail of Auchindoune, Cawdor, Nairn who he married in August 1918 in Inverness.
Killed in Action on 4 October 1918 and buried in Vadencourt British Cemetery, Maissemy, Aisne, France.
Also named on the Linton Parish War Memorial, on the Parish Church memorial, on an individual memorial in Hoselaw Chapel in Linton, on the Kelso War Memorial and on the Edrom Parish War Memorial.

1917 J.G. WOOD.

John George Wood, Military Cross – age 22 – Captain, 3rd (Reserve) Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders.
John was educated at Loretto School in Musselburgh from 1908 to 1914 and was a Corporal in the Officer Training Corps. He was commissioned from there in January 1915 and was attached to the 2nd Seaforths in France later that year. He was awarded the M.C. as “Lt. (temp. Capt.) John George Wood, Sea. Highrs. For conspicuous gallantry in action. Although wounded, he continued to lead his men with great courage and determination. He has on many previous occasions done fine work.”
During a counter-attack by his battalion, Captain Wood, hearing that one of his Lewis guns was short of ammunition, ran across the open with a fresh supply but was killed as he reached the gun.
Born 1895 in Edinburgh. Son of the late John Philp Wood of Bothedene, Bowden, Roxburghshire (died 1906) and of Margaret Ellinor (Tennent) Wood of 16 Buckingham Terrace, Edinburgh.
Missing in Action on 4 October 1917 and named on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium.
Also named on a stained glass memorial window in Bowden Parish Church and on the church war memorial.

1916 J.C.S. DARLING.

John Collier Stormonth-Darling, Distinguished Service Order – age 38 – Lieutenant Colonel, 1st Battalion, Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) attached to the 1/9th (Glasgow Highland) Battalion, Highland Light Infantry.
John was educated at Cordwalles School in Maidenhead and at Loretto School in Musselburgh until 1897. He gained a commission in the King's Own Scottish Borderers in February 1900 but transferred to the Cameronians that year and served in the South African War. He landed with the 1st Cameronians at Le Havre in August 1914 and was later promoted to Major. He had been awarded a DSO in February 1915 while a Captain. John was posted to command the 1/9th HLI in November 1915 and was killed leading his battalion at Le Transloy on the Somme a year later.
Born 1878 in Kelso, Roxburghshire. Son of the late Patrick Stormonth-Darling (died August 1916) and of Katherine Scott (Collier) Stormonth-Darling of Edenbank, Kelso.
Killed in Action on 1 November 1916 and buried in Guillemont Road Cemetery, Guillemont, Somme, France.
Also named on the Kelso War Memorial and on a Cameronians memorial plaque in Dunkeld Cathedral.

He was the son of Robert MacLuckie, writer and senior partner of Mathie, MacLuckie and Lupton, solicitors in Stirling. He was educated at Stirling High School and Loretto before becoming a civil engineer with a specialty in railway construction. He came from abroad to enlist in the Argylls.

The Loretto Roll of Honour has:

CAPTAIN REGINALD WILLIAM MacLUCKIE, 3rd (Reserve) Battalion Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders (The Stirlingshire Militia), was born in March 1878 and was at Loretto from 1892 to 1895. He took his B.Sc. degree at Edinburgh University and afterwards he went to the Cape as a Civil Engineer. At the outbreak of war he returned to Scotland and obtained a commission in the 3rd Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in March 1915. Captain MacLuckie joined a Battalion of his Regiment in France and became Brigade Bombing Officer, being given later the command of a Trench Mortar Battery. He was killed in France on August 8thth 1916.
