The Govan war memorial is a grey granit 'mercat cross' type memorial standing near Govan Cross in front of the kirk.
No names listed. Battle Honours are carved in the faces.

They might be on the City of Glasgow, but then again they might not as I don't think Govan was part ofthe city at the time.

I'll check for you.

HALL Samuel Private 3762 “C” Coy 5th Bn Connaught Rangers
Born: Govan, Renfrewshire Resided: Govan Enlisted: Paisley, Renfrewshire.
Date of Death: 06/08/1915 Cause: Killed in action.
Other notes: Private Hall’s Medal Index Card shows him as entering the Gallipoli Theatre of Operations on 21/7/1915. The Bn. War Diary entry for 6/8/1915 shows the Bn. located at “Shrapnel Gully and Bridges Road” and contains the following entry;

“Heavy firing going on on land. Landed the Battn, and proceeded to SHRAPNEL GULLY and took over “dug outs”. All day shrapnel was falling on the camp. No. 3762, Pte. S. Hall of “C” Coy was killed by a shell & several other men were wounded, but all were only slight wounds.”

Grave/Memorial: I. I. 4. Beach Cemetery, Anzac.
Other memorials: Private Hall is named in the Scottish Roll of Honour in the Scottish National War Memorial, Edinburgh Castle, Edinburgh.

"Mrs Jenkins, 127 Elder Street, Govan, has been informed that her husband, Private James Jenkins, D Company, 1st Cameron Highlanders, died on April 15 as the result of wounds received in action on April 12. Private Jenkins, who was 30 years of age, was born in Govan, and served his apprenticeship in the Fairfield Yard, afterwards being employed as a riveter with Messrs Stephen in Govan Road. He enlisted in the Camerons on September 3 and left for France on January 10."

"Private Peter Fisher, 1st Scottish Rifles, died from pneumonia on April 10 in No.4 General Hospital, Versailles. Private Fisher, who was 27 years of age, was called up as a Reservist at the outbreak of the war. He was sent to the front with the first Expeditionary Force, and was through all the big engagements from the start. Private Fisher was employed in Harland & Wolff's shipbuilding Yard, Govan. His wife and three children reside at 19 Albert Street, Govan. "
