Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald 26 April 1918

"CATRINE
PRIVATE JOSEPH CLARK, CAMERON HIGHLANDERS

(Killed)
Mr Wm Clark, Park Terrace, recieved official notification on Wednesday, 17th inst., that his son, Pte Joseph Clark, Cameron Highlanders, had been killed in the recent fighting in France. Pte Clark had been in France for 18 months and was twice invalided home with rheumatism. Mr Clark has since received a letter from Sergt. Lambie, of Mauchline, who states that Pte. Clark was hit by shrapnel on the neck, his death being instantaneous, and that he was buried in the cemetery behind the lines. He was an ideal soldier, and well liked by his comrades. Before enlisting he was employed on Sorn Castle Estate. He also wrought for many years in Cartrine Bleaching Works, and was highly respected in the village. Much sympathy is felt for Mr and Mrs Clark in their sad loss."
