After some research, we believe this Memorial to be from the University Club, Edinburgh.It is situated within the New Club, Edinburgh.

Thanks are due to Ms. Wendy Maynard for allowing permission to photograph the Memorial.
The quality of the pictures is not great and I will return to retake them.

Derek - if memory serves me right (so no guarantee) it's opposite the Floral Clock. On Google street view it's between H&M and Foot Locker.

The Club is at 86 Princes Street, Edinburgh. It's a little brown door between H&M and, I think, Gap.
Unless a member, you need permission before you can enter. (A bit like the secret service!)

I had initially thought that the memorial was somehow related to Edinburgh Uni but I'm now thinking that this was a wholly seperate University Club which was a "members only" club?

Derek, you might be right.

Took this comment from the New Club twitter/newsletter of last year.....

Excellent 'Voices of War' on Fri as the Club's pre-Armistice Day event. 36 came, followed by a service at the University Club's memorial.

Some of the names on the Memorial are listed on the Edinburgh University Students Representative Council roll of Honour.

It's a guessing game as to where the memorial actually came from. My contact at the new Club has no idea.

Additional Information: Son of John and Isabella McIntosh Shaw; husband of Mina Draper Shaw, of Barnton, Midlothian. M.A., M.D., F.R.C.S., F.R.S.

J. James M. Shaw, M.C., Croix de Guerre with Star, Colonel, Royal Army Medical Corps, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. Shaw, Leith, was born at Port Glasgow in 1885, and attended Watson's from 1894 to 1902. Entering Edinburgh University, he graduated M.A. in 1906, M.B. in 1909, M.D. in 1913 and F.R.C.S. Edinburgh. During the first world war he served in France as a Major in the R.A.M.C., was awarded the M.C. and the Croix de Guerre with Star, and was twice mentioned in dispatches. In his subsequent career he became one of Edinburgh's leading surgeons and a foremost pioneer in plastic surgery, besides devoting much attention to the use of radium and X-ray Therapy in the treatment of malignant disease. On both of these subjects he made many contributions to medical literature. On the outbreak of the second world war he was appointed Consultant Surgeon to the British Army in the Field, and in the early summer of 1940 went overseas as Consulting Surgeon to the Forces in the Middle East. He died in Egypt in September 1940 of an acute attack of dysentery.

I am not sure where the actual Edinburgh University Students Representative Council Roll of Honour is held but you can see a list of names on the Edinburgh's War website.
It is listed on the Roll of Honour page under Education.
"Edinburgh University Students' Representative Council Memorial Service and Roll of Honour".

The first name on the Second World War list

Grave Reference:2. B. 10.
Cemetery: BIGUGLIA WAR CEMETERY
Additional Information: Son of Alexander Allerdice Buist and of Margaret Eileen Buist (nee Ashton), of Kelso, Roxburghshire.

His Majesty's Motoscafo Armato Silurante 546 was a captured Italian MTB which hit a German mine on 21st February 1944 which killed Lieutenant Buist.

He is also listed on the Eckford War Memorial in the Borders
